Colleen Turner knew from the second grade that she wanted to practice veterinary medicine, however she took an alternate route to get to the goal, first obtaining a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and teaching elementary school art classes until she set her sights on veterinary medicine. She then attended Wayne State University for pre-medical curriculum, and then on to Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine for her DVM where she was lucky enough to have Dr. Zalac for a study buddy!
For the past 18 years, Dr. Turner has practiced equine medicine and surgery, with a specific focus on equine dentistry. For the past 8 years, she has received the equine dental referral cases at Michigan State University, where she is an assistant professor and enjoys teaching each new class of veterinary students.
One of the best parts of Dr. Turner’s practice is zoo animal dentistry! She has been lucky enough to help a variety of zoo animals with their dental needs, including giraffe, gazelle, zebra, kangaroo, lions, African wild dogs, kinkajou and a porcupine named Charles Pierre, among others!
